The Shadows were an English instrumental rock group, who dominated the British popular music charts in the pre-Beatles era from the late 1950s to the early 1960s. They served as the backing band for Cliff Richard from 1958 to 1968, and have joined him for several reunion tours.
William Alan Hawkshaw was a British composer and performer, particularly of library music used as themes for films and television programs. Hawkshaw worked extensively for the KPM production music company in the 1950s to the 1970s, composing and recording many stock tracks that have been used extensively in film and TV.
Alan Tarney is an English record producer and musician. He was born in Northside, Workington, Cumberland, but spent his teenage years in Adelaide, Australia, where he met his songwriting and musical partner Trevor Spencer. He is best known for his association with Cliff Richard and A-ha.
Brian Laurence Bennett is an English drummer, pianist, composer and producer of popular music. He is best known as the drummer of the UK rock and roll group the Shadows. He is the father of musician and Shadows band member Warren Bennett.
Brian "Licorice" Locking was an English musician and songwriter. He is best known for being the bass player for The Shadows for sixteen months between 1962 and 1963. He was also in groups that served as the backing band for Vince Taylor, Adam Faith, Tommy Steele and Marty Wilde, and also worked as a session player with numerous artists including rock stars Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran and Joe Brown, as well as Conway Twitty and Brenda Lee.
Bruce Welch is an English guitarist, songwriter, producer, singer and businessman best known as a founding member of the Shadows.
Hank Brian Marvin is an English multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and songwriter. He is known as the lead guitarist for the Shadows.
Ian Ralph "Sammy" Samwell was an English musician, singer-songwriter and record producer. He is best known as the writer of Cliff Richard's debut single "Move It" whilst a guitarist in Richard's backing group, the Drifters. He also featured on the recording of this song as rhythm guitarist and played bass guitar.
Terence "Jet" Harris was an English rock and roll musician. He was an original member of Cliff Richard's backing band the Shadows, serving as the bass guitarist from the group's inception until April 1962, after which he had success as a soloist and as a duo with that band's drummer, Tony Meehan.
John Clifford Farrar is an Australian music producer, songwriter, arranger, singer, and guitarist. As a musician, Farrar is a former member of several rock and roll groups including The Mustangs (1963–1964), The Strangers (1964–1970), Marvin, Welch & Farrar (1970–1973), and The Shadows (1973–1976). In 1980, he released a solo eponymous album. As a songwriter and producer, he worked with Olivia Newton-John from 1971 to 1989. He wrote her U.S. number-one hit singles: "Have You Never Been Mellow" (1975), "You're the One That I Want", "Hopelessly Devoted to You" (1978), and "Magic" (1980). He also produced the majority of her recorded material during that time, including her number-one albums, If You Love Me, Let Me Know (1974), Have You Never Been Mellow (1975), and Olivia's Greatest Hits Vol. 2 (1982). He was a co-producer of the soundtrack for the film Grease (1978).
John Henry Rostill was an English musician, bassist and composer, recruited by the Shadows to replace Brian Locking in autumn 1963.
Mark-Haydn Griffiths is a British bassist who toured with Neil Innes in his touring ensemble of the fictional Beatles parody the Rutles where he performs Rutles songs and other songs from his career such as his songs from the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band. He also has played with Cliff Richard's backing band and with the Shadows.
Daniel Joseph Anthony Meehan was a founder member of the British group the Drifters with Jet Harris, Hank Marvin and Bruce Welch, which evolved into the Shadows. He played drums on early Cliff Richard and the Shadows hits and on early Shadows' instrumentals.
